Azerbaijani national football team's debut in World Cup 2010 qualifying was unsuccesful. National team had to face defeat in the first match which was also debut of Berti Foghts.

The first time ended without goal. The second time was remarkable for Macedonian referee's numerous efforts to make Wales players win. He appointed penalty in the 66th minute to Azerbaijani team. But Aghayev saved Jason Koumas' spot kick and then blocked the second attempt when the Wigan midfielder reacted first to the rebound.Azerbaijan was reduced to 10 men 3 minutes later when Ramim was booked for pulling back Koumas. The 18-year-old Vokes scored his first international goal in the 82nd minute which became the single goal in the match. Thus Wales took a successful start with a 1-0 win over Azerbaijan./ANS PRESS/
