Alexander Stubb's aim during the one-day visit is to inspect the operational conditions facing the OSCE's unarmed military monitors.

Alexander Stubb, the Finnish foreign minister and current chairman-in-office of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) is to travel to Georgia again on Thursday, the Finnish government said Wednesday.

Mr Stubb's aim during the one-day visit is to inspect the operational conditions facing the OSCE's unarmed military monitors.

On Wednesday, the OSCE's permanent council in Vienna decided to raise the number of monitoring officers in Georgia by up to 100.

Georgia, the OSCE and Russia had earlier agreed on the deployment of 20 monitors in Georgia.

The Finnish foreign ministry said in a statement Mr Stubb would meet Mikheil Saakashvili, the president of Georgia, examine the humanitarian situation in the crisis zone and discuss the status of the ceasefire with members of the OSCE mission in Georgia and the monitors already on the ground.
