Azerbaijani athletics has gained a historical success in the 29th Games in Beijing.
Ramil Guliyev was the first Azerbaijani athlete to qualify for the quarterfinal of the Summer Olympics after taking the second place in the 200-metre race in group stage.

Guliyev reached the finish line in 20.78 seconds and was the 23rd among 32 athletes to reach the quarterfinal. The 18-year-old who was silver medal in world junior championship is to continue the competition today. Best 16 athletes are to qualify for the semifinal. Azeri athlete Ruslan Abbasov failed in the 100-metre relay race qualification round by 10.58 seconds. /APA/
