Ceremony of foundation laying of Azerbaijan State Museum of Carpet and Applied Arts named after Latif Karimov held
The 3-story building with 18 446 sq.m area will include exhibition hall, library, and scientific center of carpet-weaving, kiosk of souvenirs and books.

Ceremony of foundation laying of Azerbaijan State Museum of Carpet and Applied Arts named after Latif Karimov was held in Milli Park (National Park) on May 15. President Ilham Aliyev laid a foundation stone for the Azerbaijan State Museum of Carpet and Applied Arts named after Latif Karimov.The building to be constructed through support of Heydar Aliyev Foundation and UNESCO will resemble a rolled carpet. Design of the building belongs to Hoffmann-Janz-Matzaka Company, the winner of the tender. Construction works will be realized by AIKON Company.

The 3-story building with 18 446 sq.m area will include exhibition hall, library, and scientific center of carpet-weaving, kiosk of souvenirs and books on the first floor. The second floor is considered for talks and audio-visual presentations. The thrird floor of the building will be an exhibition area with high artistic arrangements. Besides the building will have archive, laboratory, restoration and conversation departments as well.

 Azerbaijani Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfaz Garayev and the representative of Austrian company gave information about the project. Followingly documentary film “Khalcha” (Carpet), about national art was demonstrated.The film deals with care for protection and development of people’s arts, including carpet-weaving byAzerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Heydar Aliyev Foundation. President Ilham Aliyev and General Director of UNESCO, Koichiro Matsuura delivered speech in foundation laying ceremony.
