Conference in Moscow causes serious concern
Director of the Institute of History of Azerbaijan said Azerbaijani historians will send protest statement to Russian government after carefully studying all materials of the conference.
“Caucasus Albania and Lezgi Nation’s cultural-historic heritage and contemporaneity” Conference started in Moscow. The main aim of the two-day conference is to study the history of Caucasus Albania. Although it was mentioned that the conference was organized by State Service Academy under the President of Russian Federation and National-Cultural Federal Lezgi Autonomy, the academy informed ANS TV that it had nothing to do with the conference. Baku considers that the conference is the continuation of Irevan conference held in Irevan, Armenia on September 5 last year. Azerbaijani historians had not been invited to the conference, informed Yagub Mahmudov, the director of History Institute of Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences. Mr. Yagubov said that the Moscow conference caused strong objection at the Institute. “The organization of the conference by State Academy serves to damage Russian-Azerbaijani relations. It is contradictory step taken against friendship. I protest the conference as a historian. It also caused protests at the institute," said Mahmudov. According to Mr. Mahmudov this kind of conferences might ultimately lead to damage Russia's interest, its territorial integrity. “Onu should not forget that Russia is a federative state. If the conference attendants are looking for ethnic minorities in Azerbaijan, then they must be aware of the fact that there are a lot of ethnic groups such as Tatars, Bashkirs, and various Turkic minorities in Russian Federation.”-added Azerbaijani historian. He also informed that Azerbaijani historians will send protest statement to Russian government after studying the conference’s materials thoroughly. /ANS TV/ © 2008 Bütün hüquqlar qorunur.
