Politic / 21.11.2008 22:35 Bilateral meeting between Azerbaijan and Iran to be held on legal status of Caspian Sea
The meeting will take place next year.
The meeting between Azerbaijan and Iran in a bilateral format concerning the legal status of Caspian Sea will be held in Baku next year. The Deputy Minister of foreign affairs of Azerbaijan Khalaf Khalafov informed ANS. Kh.Khalafov said that the meeting will focus on the exchange of opinions concerning sectors of the Caspian Sea. The Deputy Minister reminded of negotiations in Teheran on November 17 and noted that the working meeting was dedicated to bilateral relations, current questions as well as consultations concerning the status of the Caspian Sea. Besides that, he said that the meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran M.Mottaki discussed also the actions planned in sphere of development of bilateral relations, dialogue, and questions on boosting the intergovernmental economic cooperation: "As a result of the discussions preservation of activization of bilateral relations, continuation of intergovernmental dialogue, exchanges between delegations of the various ministries of the two countries and determination of the time of the next session of the intergovernmental commission was accepted. We will continue our contacts in this direction", he said. Kh.Khalafov also spoke of the question on delimitation: "We keep the question on the agenda and we shall continue contacts with the Embassy of the Russian Federation in our country. We are planning to hold the next round of negotiations in Baku. The co-chairman from the Russian side has been replaced. Certainly, the meeting with the new co-chairman is planned. We hope this meeting will take place in the first quarter of next year". The Deputy Minister also noted that the question of the legal status of the Caspian Sea was discussed at the meeting with delegation of Turkmenistan on November 14 within the Energy Power Summit in Baku. Bilateral meeting is expected in the nearest future. The negotiations will be held in Baku.
