ANS TV was again announced the best for highlighting election campaigns of presidential candidates.
The Institute for Reporters' Freedom and Safety (IRFS) has announced the results of the second part of its monitoring on highlighting the presidential elections on media. Emil Huseynli, co-chairman of IRFS, told journalists that the monitoring was conducted among state and private televisions as well as state-run newspapers such as “Xalg”, “Azerbaijan”, and private newspaper- “Zerkalo” and “Yeni Musavat”. Results of the monitoring revealed that ANS TV had respected diversity connected to the candidates’ election campaigns best and created opportunity for expressing their viewpoints. In general, ANS highlighted current president Ilham Aliyev more (40 seconds) in comparison with others. But it is said to be primarily neutral and positive. The rest of the TV channels, except Public Television (ITV) have only highlighted the current president. Among newspapers, Yeni Musavat has best followed the balance in covering campaigns, the report says. It was also said that Azerbaijan newspaper did not cover the rally organized by the ruling New Azerbaijan Party on September 17.
