133 years have elapsed since the  establishment of national press. Azerbaijanis could read newspaper in their native language after establishing of “Akinchi” (“Ploughman”) newspaper by Hasan bey Zardabi. There were newspapers and magazines in most languages. But Azerbaijanis were behind in establishing National Press as in many spheres. So, Hasan bey Zardabi decided to publish “Akinchi” (“Ploughman”) newspaper. The first issue of the newspaper was published in 1875, July 22. The newspaper was closed after two years and only 56 issues of the newspaper were published. Hasan bey was editor, publisher and at the same time the proof reader of the newspaper. “Akinchi” (“Ploughman”) newspaper publicized development of science, culture, literature and art. Language of the newspaper was very easy for people. That’s why people loved the newspaper very much. Meanwhile, intellectuals of 19th century Mirza Fatali Akhundov, Nacaph bey Vazirov and Seyid Azim Shirvani also worked on the newspaper.
